Many patients come to Tendwell with a sense that something is off—but no clear answers.
Sometimes they already suspect mold exposure. Other times, they’ve seen multiple specialists—ENT, neurology, gastroenterology—and still don’t feel better. Their labs may be “normal,” yet symptoms persist.
With a deeper, root-cause approach, a pattern often emerges: a history of water damage, hidden mold, or environmental exposure that hadn’t previously been considered.
Mold Can Affect More Than You Think
When people think about mold, they often think about sinus or respiratory issues—and yes, those can happen.
But what I see most often goes beyond that.
Mold and mycotoxin exposure can impact:
- Energy → fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest
- Brain function → brain fog, difficulty concentrating
- Mood → anxiety, low mood, irritability
- Immune system → increased inflammation or autoimmune markers
- Metabolism → weight gain or difficulty losing weight
It’s not just one system—it’s often the whole body.
“Why Am I the Only One Feeling This Way?”
This is one of the most common (and frustrating) experiences.
You may be living in the same home as others—but you’re the only one with symptoms.
This is real.
Some individuals have genetic differences (often called SNPs) that make it harder for their bodies to detoxify mycotoxins. These patients are often the “canaries in the coal mine”—their bodies signal a problem sooner and more intensely.
Unfortunately, this can lead to feeling dismissed or misunderstood.
But your symptoms are valid—and there is a reason behind them.
Is Healing Possible?
Yes—with the right approach.
The most important first step is removing ongoing exposure. Without a clean environment, the body cannot fully recover.
From there, healing is absolutely possible—but it often takes time.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Healing is not linear
- Re-exposures can happen (especially with travel)
- Symptoms may fluctuate along the way
- Lab markers (like urine mycotoxins) may temporarily rise as detox pathways open
This is part of the process—not a setback.
In my experience, the biggest barrier to recovery is continued exposure. When that piece is addressed, the body has an incredible capacity to heal.
If you’re dealing with persistent symptoms and not getting answers, it may be worth asking a different question:
Could your environment be playing a role?
At Tendwell, we take the time to look deeper—and help you connect the dots.
